VJ Edgecombe is having a very impressive start to his NBA career thus far. The Bahamian-native and his early-season performance are helping validate the Philadelphia 76ers' selecting him 3rd overall back in the summer.

In his first 12 games of the season, Edgecombe is averaging 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists while shooting 38% from the 3-point line. He is currently tied for second place in both points-per-game as well as threes made on the season for rookies, displaying solid marksmanship from beyond the arc thus far.

Easily, Edgecombe’s best outing this season was in fact his first game in the league.

He scored 34 points on a highly efficient 13 of 26 from the court, along with shooting 5 of 13 from three against the Boston Celtics on the road. His first-game performance broke the Philadelphia 76ers’ record for most points in a debut, originally held by Philly legend Allen Iverson, who scored 30 points in his first game with the 76ers.

Edgecombe's first game also broke Lebron James' record for the most points scored in the first quarter in a player's debut, with 14 points. From all this, it becomes very fathomable that Philadelphia is very pleased with the former Baylor standout's production in the early goings of the season.

If he can maintain his strong showcasing, Edgecombe could easily place himself in the running for the rookie of the year award by the end of the season.
